This story isn’t new, but it’s so sweet, it definitely should be shared. Karleen Bradford in her book Animal Heroes: 27 True Stories tells the true story of Tuk the polar bear. He was housed at Vancouver’s Stanley Park Zoo which is now closed. In 1983 a young man threw a kitten into the polar bear’s pool. Tuk rose, stretched, and then slid into the pool, surfacing moments later with the kitten held gently in his teeth. He then lay down with the kitten, holding it carefully between his paws, and licked it dry. It seems the mothering instinct is strong, even among male polar bears.
