If you search for “cat saves family from fire” online, you might be surprised how many hits you get. It seems that waking one’s sleeping family and saving them from smoke and fire is quite a catly trait. One of these stories involves Bandit, a 15-year-old Tuxedo cat in the United Kingdom. While Bandit’s family slept the brave cat scratched at his human’s face to raise the alarm that the kitchen was on fire. His human then woke her partner and his two children, and together they got safely out of the house along with (take a deep breath here) — Bandit, four other cats, four kittens, two dogs, hamsters, gerbils and rabbits.
All occupants of the house, both human and furry, made it to safety. Firefighters quickly put out the blaze. Upon learning of Bandit’s actions, they said that if the cat hadn’t woken up his human, the occupants of the house would possibly have died from toxic fumes and smoke. Three cheers for Bandit.
