When someone says, “Lassie,” we all think of the same dog. Collies are beautiful herding dogs, but they come in more colors than the tricolor we associate with Lassie. They also come in sable and white, blue merle and white varieties (predominantly white, preferably with markings).

The Collie is known for his elongated muzzle and coloration. This breed is very intelligent and keen on working since they have been bred to do the work of herding. They tend to be great with children of all ages, providing the dog is well trained and properly socialized. The breed is known for its gentleness and has an obedient nature – making it one of the easiest breeds in the world to train.

Collies require a gentle hand to avoid shyness and generally have a very strong desire to please their owners. This breed has a very even and well-mannered temperament and therefore does well in homes with other animals and children. Since they were originally bred for herding, the dogs have the tendency to nip at ankles as a pup, however most grow out of this stage. Willing to learn and very loyal, the Collie will surely provide you with a lot of love and become a faithful companion.
